The mentors and minds behind IBRT
IBRT is a family, or a “phamilia”. Faculty mentors, student leaders, members and alumni all keep the work going.
Prof. Olusegun George Ademowo
Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training (IAMRAT), College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
Prof. Ademowo wrote the proposal that brought SEA-PHAGES to the University of Ibadan. He chose Biomedical Laboratory Science students because their training suited the work best. He has led the faculty team ever since, and he is known to students as an approachable, father-like mentor.
Everybody should see themselves as people whose value is more than what they themselves think about them, or what others think about them.Prof. O.G. AdemowoInterview, PHAMILIA Vol. 1

Supervision from across the College of Medicine
The permanent faculty team is IBRT’s highest decision-making body. It supervises all research, approves programmes, and reviews collaborations and sponsorships.

Student leaders through the years
The Team Lead heads the Phage Leaders Forum, leads every SEA-PHAGES annotation and chairs the World Phage Week committee.
Tolulope J. Oduselu
Led the characterisation of six phage genomes and co-designed the virtual training course. He founded PHAMILIA and World Phage Week, was the youngest ESCMID “30 under 30” honoree, and was the pioneer lead of the BAMSSA Research Hub.
Oluwasegun Isaac Daramola
Expanded IBRT into four working groups. He also led the team into SEDRIC, started its Twitter Spaces series, hosted the 3rd World Phage Week and published PHAMILIA 2.0.
Akintade Temiloluwa
Leading the team as World Phage Week becomes a hybrid symposium, with PHAMILIA Vol. 3 due to launch at the event.
The Phage Leaders
Year 2 and Year 3 members chosen by the screening panel. They run the team day to day, deliver training and keep IBRT visible.

The pioneer cohort (2k18)
Eleven 300-level students from the 2015/2016 BMLS class volunteered for the first SEA-PHAGES course. They annotated phage Idaho and laid the foundations that every later cohort has built on.
